Danny Vargas Testifies to Senate
VARCom’s President, Danny Vargas, Testified to Senate Rules Committee on National Museum of the American Latino Act
Herndon, VA – Danny Vargas, President/Founder of VARCom Solutions and Chairman of the Friends of the National Museum of the American Latino, testified before the United States Senate Committee on Rules and Administration (chaired by Sen. Blunt of Missouri) during a hearing to review S.1267, National Museum of the American Latino Act. The hearing took place on November 17, 2020 and included testimony from Ranking Member Sen. Klobuchar (MN) and Committee members Sen. John Cornyn (TX), Sen. Robert Menendez (NJ), Sen. Moore-Capito (WV), Sen. Udall, (NM), and Sen. Cortez-Masto (NV). Other witnesses included Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution, Mr. Lonnie Bunch, actor and activist, Ms. Eva Longoria-Baston, and Friends group board member, Ms. CiCi Rojas.
Mr. Vargas’ testimony described the history and contributions of Latinos to the founding, shaping and defending of the United States; the complexity of the Latino community in the country today; the background of the National American Latino Museum initiative and the call to action to get the bill approved in the Senate after having passed in the U.S. House of Representatives unanimously in July of this year.
“I grew up poor, in a broken home, in the streets of Brooklyn, testifying in the Senate is simply surreal for someone like me. It was one of the great honors of my life to ensure I was able to enter the names of my sons, Daniel and David, into the Congressional record”, Vargas stated. He added, “The effort to advance the creation of a National American Latino Museum has been underway since 1994 and seeing it so close to reaching fruition is truly emotional and inspiring. It is about honoring our ancestors and inspiring our descendants. It is intended to illuminate the American story for the benefit of everyone; for a more complete and accurate telling of American history”.
