VARCom Solutions Cheers the Passage of the National American Latino Museum Act in the House
VARCom Applauds the US House of Representatives Passing the Bill Creating the National Museum of the American Latino
Herndon, VA – VARCom Solutions applauds the action taken by the U.S. House of Representatives to approve the National Museum of the American Latino Act (H.R. 2420). The vote took place on Monday July 27th, 2020 and was passed unanimously on a voice vote, as a result of a suspension of the rules since it had garnered 295 cosponsors (more than the two thirds needed to be enacted in this fashion). The bill found that the legacy of Latinos is deeply rooted in the very fabric of the history, democracy, freedom, and economic opportunity of the United States. Among other items, the bill calls for the creation of a Board of Trustees, designation of a site for the museum, and hiring of a Director and staff charged with providing for the collection, study, research, publication and establishment of exhibitions and programs relating to Latino life, art, history and culture.
“Latinos have been contributing to the building, shaping and defending of our nation since before its founding, but these indispensable stories of American history have largely been absent from our magnificent museums on the national mall,” said Danny Vargas, President of VARCom Solutions and Chairman of the Board of the Friends of the National Museum of the American Latino (a 501c3 dedicated to the advancement of the establishment of this museum). “More than ever, every American would benefit from a more complete picture of the history of our great country and all the communities who sacrificed to build her. Now we stand at the precipice of enshrining an enduring institution that will fill the missing pages from our history books and inspire countless future generations to come.”
Having successfully passed in the House, the bill now passes to the U.S. Senate where a similar companion bill currently enjoys the support of a bipartisan group of 35 cosponsors. “With support from Senators John Cornyn (R-TX) and Bob Menendez (D-NJ), we call on senators from both sides of the aisle to join us in making history,” said Estuardo Rodriguez, President & CEO of the Friends group.
